Recently, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors joined the ISELED Alliance. Founded in 2016, the ISELED Alliance is an open alliance that provides intelligent RGB LED technology for automotive interior lighting.
The ISELED Alliance is developing a complete ecosystem for smart RGB LEDs, including RGB LED modules, LED controllers and software. The alliance focuses on the interaction and coordination between hardware and software components to ensure optimal integration of LEDs and associated controllers. According to ISELED, this method can extend the interior lighting system of the car and simplify the LED controller.
With the development of autonomous driving, the interior design of the car has changed, and the demand for installed LED light sources has also increased. A new generation of automotive interior or ambient lighting uses hundreds of LEDs, usually consisting of flexible strips with a large number of RGB LEDs, which in turn must be individually controlled to produce dynamic lighting effects.
In the concept of ISELED, each "digital LED" consists of red, green and blue LED chips that can be integrated into the controller in a small package and can be daisy-chained. Up to 4,079 such "digital LEDs" can be arranged over different 2-wire buses at a data rate of 2 Mbps and controlled by an external controller, plus video with the appropriate application software from ISELED partners. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will soon launch the first prototype of the smart RGB LED on the market. Hermann Senninger, senior marketing manager for automotive interiors at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, said, “The key customer advantage of these innovative smart LED components is that complex calibrations that adjust the color position and brightness between LEDs will no longer be needed.”
In addition to OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, Inova Semiconductors, Dominant Opto Technologies, Lucie Labs, Melexis, OLSA Group, NXP, TE Connectivity, Pforzheim University and Valeo have joined the ISELED Alliance.
